We also understand that balancing work and life can be challenging, and that sometimes you may need some additional support. Which is why we’ve brought together a range of tools to help you make sure you’re good to go.

Snapshot
What is it?
While one in five Australians will experience a mental illness at some point in their lives, very few will seek professional help for their problems. In response to this, Black Dog Institute have used their expertise to create Snapshot, a mobile app that lets you discreetly monitor and manage your depression or anxiety. By assessing your general happiness, mood and anxiety, as well as work stress, sleep, social support and alcohol intake, this app provides general feedback and options for online and offline help-seeking services in Australia.
Who is it for?
If you are experiencing depression or anxiety, or are concerned about your mental health, you can use Snapshot to measure, monitor and manage factors that may influence your mental wellbeing.

Toolkit
Workplace Mental Health Toolkit
What is it?
Everyone has a role to play in promoting good mental health in the workplace. Do you know how to recognise the signs of depression or anxiety in yourself or others? This PDF toolkit, which has been developed by the Black Dog Institute, can help you to understand the common mental health issues in the workplace. It also provides strategies for talking about mental health issues and resources to support those who may be experiencing a mental health condition.

This PDF toolkit is a great reference tool for apprentices/trainees (and managers) who want to learn about mental health in the workplace.

Online Support
myCompass Self-Help Program
What is it?
myCompass is a free online self-help program for people with mild-to-moderate depression, anxiety and stress. Based on your responses to questions during registration, myCompass recommends online learning modules that match your individual needs. Alternatively, you can select modules that interest you.
myCompass also allows you to track your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and provides graphical feedback to help you recognise unhelpful patterns and possible triggers. This program delivers proven psychological techniques used by doctors and psychologists such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).
Who is it for?
This comprehensive online resource is targeted at individuals who are currently experiencing depression, anxiety or stress. For those who have not previously utilised therapy, myCompass can be a useful introduction to this type of treatment, or an alternative for people averse to face-to-face treatment.

Helpline
24/7 MATES in Construction Helpline
What is it?
A suicide prevention helpline, available 24/7, especially for workers in the construction and building industry.
Who is it for?
If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or are in need of immediate support for a mental health issue, you can call the helpline.

Mentoring Service
What is it?
Sometimes issues both in and outside the workplace can create stress which may reduce an apprentice or trainee’s ability to function efficiently in their role. Our mentors are there to help the apprentice or trainee to overcome these challenges, giving them the best possible opportunity to complete their training. It’s like having your very own life coach!
Who is it for?
All apprentices and trainees registered with The Apprenticeship Community have access to their own personal mentor.
