Mates in Construction
Recently, a special luncheon was held at the Hyatt Grand Ballroom in Perth to raise awareness for a very important cause – and one which is very close to our hearts – promoting positive mental health in the workplace. The luncheon was hosted by Mates in Construction, a not-for-profit organisation that provides mental health support for people in the building and construction industry. Among the 250 attendees were The Apprenticeship Community’s Melanie Goddard, and our partners Amanda Hamilton from Civmec, Charlotte Sutton from Skill Hire and Kay Patel from Georgiou (pictured).
The Apprenticeship Community is passionate about helping apprentices and employers form strong relationships that set both parties up for success. This goes far beyond the sign up process, and includes support throughout the apprenticeship, such as mentoring to help candidates deal with any personal issues that may arise.
Positive mental health is so important to the success of apprenticeships. Without the right support, apprentices can become disengaged and are at risk of dropping out of their training.
Last year, building and construction was the number one industry for sign ups within The Apprenticeship Community. Mates in Construction are experts in this industry, and use their experience to influence the culture of employers by raising awareness about the signs that workers may be struggling with life issues.
With the help of Mates in Construction, The Apprenticeship Community will be holding free General Awareness Training in our Rivervale offices. The training is aimed at any employers in the civil construction industry interested in better engaging with their employees.
