Employers Impacted with Payroll Tax Increase
A significant impact to employers with a nation-wide payroll over $100 million was announced yesterday as part of the WA State Budget. The WA State Government has turned to big businesses in an attempt to repair the state’s finances, imposing a tax levy on large scale employers for five years starting 1 July 2018:
- Employers with a nation-wide payroll tax between $100 million and $1.5 billion will be taxed at a marginal rate of 6%, and
- Employers with a nation-wide payroll tax exceeding $1.5 billion will be taxed at a marginal rate of 6.5%.
