Distance Is No Barrier for Kira

Kira was dreaming of a career in business and keen to build her skills through an apprenticeship. Unfortunately, there weren’t many opportunities in Kira’s hometown of Derby, located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Undeterred, Kira approached Kimberley Group Training to see if there were any positions available through their organisation.  The Field Officer at Kimberley Group Training was impressed with Kira’s enthusiasm and determination, and suggested that Kira consider a role with Notre Dame University in Broome.

Broome is approximately 250 kilometres from Derby, so commuting to and from work was not an option – Kira would have to relocate.

While moving out of home was a little daunting at first, Kira embraced the opportunity with both hands, and took on the role. With the help of The Apprenticeship Community’s Sam Aldridge, she signed-up to a Certificate IV in Business. She has also been able to access The Apprenticeship Community’s mentoring services, which have helped her with the challenges associated with moving to a new town.

Kira is now settled happily in Broome and financially independent, thanks to Kimberly Group Training and The Apprenticeship Community. She is enjoying her role with Notre Dame University and also spending time on Broome’s beautiful beaches!
