Look Out! Here Comes Generation Z!
It might be scary to think about, but the next wave of employees to enter the workforce will come from Generation Z, those born between 1995 – 2010 (give or take). But don’t worry, Z does not stand for ‘Zombies’; this new generation is ready to work, ready to learn and worried about building a career. Which is why apprenticeships could well hold the key to attracting the next generation of workers.
According to research by Universum*, 62% of global Gen Z-ers are open to the idea of joining the workforce, instead of going to university. But 36% are worried about getting stuck in a job with no development opportunities, and 28% worry they won’t realise their career goals.
An apprenticeship offers a number of solutions to these Gen Z conundrums. For starters, an apprenticeship allows the person to join the workforce straight away. Not only are they getting real, on-the-job experience, they’re also earning a wage. There are other financial incentives available to apprentices too, such as the Living Away From Home Allowance and Trade Support Loans. And for businesses that employ apprentices there are benefits like financial incentives and the WA payroll tax exemption.
Apprenticeships also deliver fantastic learning and development experiences, with the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Training is available both on the job and off-site through a variety of Registered Training Organisations (RTO). The Apprenticeship Community is an organisation that can help to provide with support and guidance whilst you undertake your training.
For those Gen Z-ers that are anxious about getting a head-start on their career, there are numerous jobs and pathways available through Australian Apprenticeships. In fact, by utilising the Australian Apprenticeships Pathways an apprenticeship can lead to a career in financial service, creative arts, tourism or even animal care. Plus, apprenticeships and traineeships are a great way for business owners to develop their own staff, helping to retain quality staff who can see a future for themselves within the company.
So if you’re interested in engaging Generation Z and readying your business for the next wave of workers, give The Apprenticeship Community a call.
